What is Engineering Research and Development for Technology (ERDT)?

ERDT will contribute to attaining a critical mass of graduates with master’s and doctorate degrees. These highly educated individuals possess advanced knowledge and skills that can drive innovation, problem-solving, and sustainable economic growth. They are essential for conducting cutting-edge research that informs evidence-based policies, fosters technological advancements, and addresses pressing societal challenges. They can teach and encourage the next generation of researchers, creating a steady flow of researchers. An abundance of postgraduate researchers promotes intellectual and economic advancement, increasing a country’s competitiveness, supporting social development, and establishing it as a knowledge-driven society on the world stage.

The entitlements for Master’s and Doctoral students include coverage for tuition fees, with the actual amount being billed. In addition, Master’s students receive a monthly stipend of P25,000, while Doctoral students receive P33,000 per month. Both levels of students receive a Learning Materials and/or Connectivity Allowance of P20,000 per academic year. Transportation Allowance is provided for students studying outside their home province, including one economy class round trip per academic year. Group Accident and Health Insurance premiums are covered, ensuring students’ well-being.

Thesis/Dissertations Outright Grants are P60,000 for Master’s and P100,000 for Doctoral students. For Research Support Grants, Master’s students are given P225,000 while Doctoral students are allotted P475,000. These grants support research endeavors including laboratory equipment costs. Students can also apply for Research Dissemination Grants, Mentor’s Fees, and additional research grants depending on their specific needs and academic level. However, certain grants may not apply to Master of Engineering scholars.

Summary

The Engineering Research and Development for Technology (ERDT) program is intended for full-time graduate studies, allowing recipients to concentrate on their MS/Ph.D. degrees and complete them within the time span specified. Scholars are not permitted to work or practice their profession throughout the scholarship time in order to keep their scholarship. The completion of a Scholarship Agreement, which formalizes the scholar’s commitment to the program, is a crucial component of the scholarship program. Academic performance evaluations are conducted each school term in accordance with set standards, and the scholar’s scholarship status is determined.

It must be certain that students do not have other scholarships at the same time in order for everyone to have a fair shot. After finishing their degrees, they must work in the Philippines for one year for every year they receive the scholarship. If students do not complete their education, they must repay the scholarship with extra money so they can show how vital it is helping the country.
