In line with Republic Act No. 7687, also known as the “Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 1994,” eligible and deserving students from economically disadvantaged families are granted scholarships. These DOST scholarships are specifically focused on the fields of basic sciences, engineering, applied sciences, mathematics, and science education for those who meet the criteria.

What is DOST S & T Undergraduate Scholarship?

On the other hand, the “Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 1994,” officially designated as Republic Act No. 7687, offers scholarships to capable and deserving students from families with socioeconomic statuses below specific cut-off values. Successful applicants are required to focus on priority fields of study, including basic sciences, engineering, applied sciences, and science and mathematics education.

The Regular Academic Year scholarship provides P40,000.00 per year for tuition and school fees, P10,000.00 per year for book allowance, P7,000.00 per month for living allowance, and P1,000.00 for clothing allowance (only in the first semester of the first year). Additionally, a transportation allowance covers one economy-class roundtrip fare for students studying outside their home province. Other benefits include group health and accident insurance, a thesis allowance of P10,000.00, and a graduation allowance of P1,000.00.

For the Summer Allowance, if required in the curriculum, students receive P1,500.00 for tuition and school fees, P500.00 (with the need to submit an official receipt) for book allowance, and P7,000.00 per month for living allowance for two months.

Qualifications

The criteria of eligibility for both the MERIT and RA7687 are as follows:

  • Natural-born Filipino citizen.
  • Must be a member of the top five percent (5%) of the graduating class in the non-STEM strand or the STEM strand in senior high school.
  • Must possess good moral character and be in good health.
  • Should not have any previous post-secondary or undergraduate units.
  • Must meet one of the following conditions: (a) Have not taken any previous DOST-SEI examination, or (b) Have taken the DOST-SEI Undergraduate Examination but did not qualify for the scholarship, or (c) Have qualified for the DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship but did not avail of the award.
  • Poor, talented, and deserving student who belongs to a family whose socioeconomic status does not exceed the set values of certain indicators. (RA7687 only)
  • Resident of the municipality as attested by the barangay for at least four (4) years. (RA7687 only)

  • Certified Copy of Permanent Student Record (Form 137) or Report Card (Form 138) for Grades 9, 10, and 11 or Philippine Equivalency Placement Test Certificate of Rating
  • For Grades 9 and 11: Accreditation and Equivalency Test Certificate of Rating or presentation Portfolio Assessment Certificate of Completion
